Try It! Interactive Exercise - Mnemonic - If You Can Say It, You Can Remember It!

Imagery and association are involved in many mnemonic devices used to improve memory. In the pegword mnemonic technique, you first memorize a short rhyme. Then, using these words as pegs, you create a visual image of each of the words you wish to remember. The short rhymes can differ in the exact words used, but as long as they remain easy to remember, they will work. The example below uses a different set of rhymes than the one in your text, but you will notice that they are very similar. Use whatever works best for you.

For this exercise, you will first observe some examples of a pegword mnemonic in action, then you will create some images of your own.

I. Click on the pegwords below to reveal the visualization used to remember each item.

One is a bun Steak Bun
Two is a shoe Milk Shoe
Three is a tree Eggs Tree

II. You have a meeting with your record producer in a few hours. You're afraid you will forget to bring some crucial information with you. In order to make sure you remember the items you will need, create your own visual images using the pegwords and list of items to be memorized below. You will need to describe them verbally since we can't count on everyone being a graphic artist.
