Try It! Survey - This Course, of Course

In order to prepare yourself for a career after graduation or for additional schooling, you must decide on a major field of study in college. Courses are arranged in a logical sequence so that as you become closer to your goal, you are ready to assume the responsibilities of that career or of graduate school. In the process of fulfilling specific course requirements, however, you may not agree with that logic. You may be required to take courses that you don't particularly like, or that you may have difficulty with. Nevertheless, they are important to your background in your major area, or to your general knowledge as an educated person.

I. Select one required course, so far, that you are taking or have taken that you feel is LEAST likely to satisfy your interests or your immediate needs. Review its purpose either from your college catalogue or from talking to your advisor and then make a logical assessment of its impact on your overall educational requirements by clicking in the level, in the table below, that you determine is appropriate.

II. Now that you better understand the purpose of the course(s) you are required to take, in the box below, write a letter to the person or persons who are financially supporting you through college that explains the purpose of required courses. Make sure they understand that their money is not wasted and that all courses are important in your growth as an educated person. If you are supporting yourself through college, write the letter to a friend or relative who may be questioning some of the courses you are taking.
