Power Person: Nominate Someone Special

Do you know someone who is particularly successful at getting along with others? Does this person communicate well with others? Is this person a good listener and able to accept others rather than judge people? Is he or she educated about the history and varying experience of different racial, ethnic, and cultural groups? Does this person seek to understand events and situations through the perspectives of others and not just his or her own? How has he or she expanded their cultural competence in their college experience? How does he or she do it? Would others benefit from his or her experiences?

If so, nominate this person to be the focus of the Speaking of Success feature in chapter twelve of the next edition of P.O.W.E.R. Learning. In a brief essay, written in the space below, explain why you feel this person would be a good choice as a role model for successful communicating skills and cultural sensitivity. Be sure to use specific examples of his or her success. Broad generalities won't suffice. At the end of the semester, all students using the text and this Web site will be allowed to vote for their choice, although you will not be able to vote for your nomination. The student receiving the most votes may be featured in the next edition of the text, if he or she so chooses. You can view the current entries here.
