    12-1. Plant Tour: Audio Research
Managerial Accounting Topic: Segmented reporting; decentralization.
Brief Overview: A manufacturer of high-end audio equipment including amplifiers, pre-amplifiers, and CD players. This tour does not provide a great deal about "how" things are done, but has good images and general descriptions of the responsibilities for each department. From the home page click on "On-line tour" and then "continue" at the bottom of each screen.
Relevant Topics: Consumer electronics, functional layout.
    Rating: ***

In this chapter we have discussed the importance of segmented reporting that comes about because of decentralization. Based on the virtual plant tour of Audio Research Company determine the different departments that the company has, and determine two measures you would use to determine how the segments are performing.
