Introduces a Canadian context in terms of examples, projects, statistics, and pictures without replacing important content and illustrations drawn from around the world. Canadian connections can be found throughout the text in each of the following key areas:

  • Real HOT (Hands On Technology) Electronic Commerce Projects. Each chapter-ending project (11 in all) provides a comprehensive exercise, taking students to the Internet to find information and explore sites for solving the projects. Each project is accompanied by a link to the text's Web site, where there are at least 100 additional links so that students can fully explore the Internet as a problem-solving tool.
  • 14 Real HOT Group Projects at end of text: These optional projects require students to work in teams in order to solve more complex problems. They are more in-depth than the end-of-chapter projects. They have a group versus individual focus and require more time to complete. The authors provide teaching tips on which projects fit best with certain chapters in the Instructor's Manual.
  • On Your Own, Team Work Project, and Career Opportunities: These sidebar, boxed items appear throughout each chapter and can either be completed in class or assigned as homework. They show students how chapter concepts are applied to real-world situations and solving business problems.
  • Industry Perspectives and Global Perspectives: Each chapter contains 9-10 real-world vignettes that focus on how IT is used in a variety of industries (from retail to health care) to appeal to business and non-business students alike. Also included in each chapter are global perspective boxes which illustrate various corporations' global use of IT.
  • Chapter Opening and Closing Cases: Each chapter contains real-world chapter opening and closing case studies on the use of IT.
  • Cross-Functional materials: Shows how I.S. is used in different sectors of the economy and in different disciplines/jobs including banking, financial, hotel management, entrepreneurial, and retail.
  • Interactive Learning Environment: The Alternate Edition for Canada keeps the focus on teaching MIS concepts by having students interact with the book, their instructor, and technology, as well as helping instructors.
