Features
Active learning and the development of problem-solving skills are critical to achieving competence in scientific inquiry. The features outlined below have been developed to provide both you and your teacher with a variety of ways to assess your achievement.

Section Review
Each numbered section in each chapter is followed by a set of section review questions. These questions allow you to reinforce concepts and ideas immediately after learning them. In general, Section Review questions appear in order from least to most challenging.

Chapter Review
Each chapter ends with a set of features  and questions to review and reinforce your understanding of the knowledge, concepts, skills, and issues presented in the chapter.
  • Chapter Summary is a list of the key concepts and themes presented in the chapter. Each concept includes the section number(s) within the chapter where it is discussed, for easy reference.
  • Language of Biology is a list of key terminology that appeared in boldfaced type in the chapter. Several ways of reviewing your understanding of these terms are provided.
  • Review questions for the entire chapter are provided, organized according to four categories: Understanding Concepts, Inquiry, Communicating, and Making Connections.

Unit Review
Following each unit, a four-page review allows you to assess your understanding of the entire unit. Questions are organized according to the four categories given above. Within each category, questions are generally listed in order of increasing difficulty.
